City & Village Tours, the tour wholesaler that offers day trips and sleepovers for groups who like to see a lot without walking too far, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year with a new brochure full of unusual and quirky itinerary suggestions.
The company, set up by Gyll King in 1988, remains unique among UK group tour operators in providing specially selected Blue Badge Tourist Guides who accompany each tour.
New for 2018 is ‘Those Magnificent Men’, an afternoon musical show that celebrates the 100th anniversaries of WWI and the RAF. The event takes place in the authentic men’s Mess Hall at Stow Maries in Essex, the world’s last surviving Great War aerodrome. Also new for 2018 is the opportunity to travel into areas of Windsor Great Park normally reserved for the Royal Family, the chance to combine a behind-the-scenes visit to Penshurst Place in Kent with the opportunity to try the sport of curling at England’s only curling rink, and day trips that reveal the stories of London’s Georgian gin craze and offer visits to the Design Museum and the Museum of Brands. This year, the popular ‘Mighty Wurlitzer Christmas Concerts’ that take place on November and December afternoons at the Musical Museum at Kew Bridge in London, and which are now in their 11th year, include lunch.
The 2018-2019 brochure also offers more ‘London Jam-Busters’, a unique City & Village Tours initiative introduced in 2017 that makes it easier to visit London on a day trip by timing tours to avoid travel in the morning or afternoon rush hours.
“From day one back in 1988 my focus has always been about giving groups well crafted, creative and original itineraries for experienced group travel organisers and their discerning members,” says Gyll King.
“We pride ourselves on being the experts in what you do when you get there. Over these last 30 years we’ve worked hard to build a solid and consistent reputation, becoming known as the word-of-mouth company. Our focus today remains unchanged, giving GTOs peace of mind, and the confidence that they won’t be let down.”
