If luxury accommodation is high on your hotel wish list, you won’t go far wrong with the gem my partner Sarah and I discovered. The Manor House Lindley in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire is a five-star hotel and a great choice if you enjoy something a little different. Because everything is different about this hotel. It is a design tour de force.
A grand fountain sets the scene for this manor in a smart suburb of Huddersfield. Step inside and you could be in a country house with a very stylish owner. The design and décor of every public space is full of personality; there is no hotel branded chain feel here. The staff are generally young, bright and bouncy, but helpful and courteous.
Our room was a small apartment with a bedroom, sitting room and kitchen. It had virtually every amenity except a bath. Dinner is a highlight. Do not dine here if you are ravenously wanting big portions; this is a fine dining experience of beautifully presented, beautifully served and superbly prepared food.
It really is top notch in every detail and matched by a quality wine list or pre-chosen wines to accompany each course. Our five-course taster menu and wines to go with each course came to £200 for two, but it was close to faultless in quality, presentation and service.
The 11 rooms are all individually styled and use high quality fittings. There are a few niggles where style has trumped practicality, but don’t come to this hotel for an everyday experience – it is a modern boutique hotel that’s a feast for the senses.
