The Tack Room restaurant in Newmarket proved an odds-on favourite with the Group Travel World magazine team on a recent trip to the National Horse Racing Museum.
In a fantastic spot in the pretty King’s Yard (which once stabled King Charles II’s horses), you’ll pass the entrance to the restaurant as you enter the main museum – but you don’t need to pay an entrance fee to sample its fantastic dishes, as the restaurant is open to all-comers, not just ticket holders.
Its welcoming outdoor terrace area proved the ideal spot for a sunny lunch for the GTW team, who were blown away by the quality of the food. Showcasing seasonal and local produce, they sampled halloumi burgers (“the best I’ve ever tasted” according to Abi Paige), delicious steak sandwiches and salads, washed down with a glass of crisp white wine. Prices were reasonable, with dishes starting from around £11, and the service friendly and welcoming.
The restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday daytimes, and can accommodate up to 60 people inside, with additional seating outside. Visit nhrm.co.uk/the-tack-room
