It is the North Yorkshire town that inspired Charles Dickens to write A Christmas Carol, with a Christmas Festival weekend known as one of the finest in the country, and this year organisers are introducing a new booking system for timed coach drop-offs and pick-ups at Malton’s Christmas Festival, which takes place on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 December 2024.
Organised by Visit Malton, the Malton Christmas Festival turns the picturesque market town centre into the perfect venue for Christmas shopping. Known as a town of bakers and makers, visitors will enjoy over 80 stalls and food outlets offering unique gift ideas as well as festive fayre to thousands of visitors.
“The traders at the Malton Christmas Festival and the dozens of independently owned shops, cafés and restaurants around the town welcome coach groups, and we are keen to make it easier than ever for them to drop off and collect their travellers when they arrive in Malton,” comments Mark Brayshaw, Head of Visit Malton. “Any coach operator bringing a group in can secure a timed slot right at the entrance to the Festival, and then follow our one-way system to get out to dedicated parking quickly and easily.”
The new system should ease congestion in and out of the town during the busy Festival weekend. Malton’s Finkle Street and Newgate will be closed to private motorists during the event, but coach operators will be able to follow a one-way loop from Wheelgate into Finkle Street, following Newgate out onto Spital Street to head to nearby coach parking.
