The highly popular musical Wicked has just chalked up another record, having welcomed its five millionth fan to the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London. The musical that tells the untold story of the Witches of Oz has won no less than 90 international awards and has now been running for a decade, already rising to become the 16th most popular West End musical ever. The show has also been shortlisted for the BBC2 Audience Award, the only Oliver Award to be decided solely by public vote.
Based on the acclaimed novel by Gregory Maguire, that re-imagined the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’, Wicked tells the untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two girls who first meet as sorcery students. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West. The show is packed with technical wizardry, dazzling costumes and show-stopping songs. Groups all round the UK will be able to enjoy Wicked more easily from September onwards, as the show starts a UK and Ireland tour, opening at Manchester’s Palace Theatre, while also continuing its West End run.
