the international bomber command centre’s (ibcc) ‘salute to the 40s’ weekend will be in full swing this saturday and sunday (10 11 august)

The International Bomber Command Centre’s (IBCC) ‘Salute to the 40s’ weekend will be in full swing this Saturday and Sunday (10-11 August) – including fly pasts from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight aircrafts.

The weekend will feature re-enactors in 1940s apparel, bringing the era back to life alongside a range of classic cars and military vehicles. Refreshments, tea and cake will be served in the IBCC marquee on authentic vintage crockery to add to the ’40s feeling and enjoy a free concert from a brilliant Glenn Miller tribute at 2pm on Saturday 10 August.

On both days attendees will be able to enjoy fly pasts from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight aircraft. Visitors will be able to discover more about the equipment, items, and daily life of someone in the 1940s in a perfect family day out. The IBCC learning team will run free educational activities for kids throughout the day. Free briefings from historian Allan Jones will also be delivered on RAF D Day operations and Operation Taxable, a key part of the campaign.

Chief executive of the IBCC, Nicky van der Drift, said: “This is one of our favourite weekends of the year, seeing hundreds of enthusiasts bring their passions to the IBCC and share in it. We’ve got lots planned to make this year the best yet. We encourage everyone to come down even if just for a coffee to learn about this slice of life of how they lived in the 1940s.”

The event will run between 10 to 4pm with entry free except for parking. The IBCC’s exhibition, cafe, and gift shop will all be open throughout the day as well.
