Los Angeles and Hollywood are synonymous with movie-making. Home to working studios, such as Warner Bros, and the iconic industry awards ceremony the Academy Awards, they’re the go-to destination for film fans.

As the Oscars celebrates its 90th anniversary this year, we take a look at a selection of movie locations you and your group can enjoy for free in the area…

The City of Angels once again gets a star turn courtesy of hit film La La Land. The characters Mia and Sebastian, played by Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, sashay around town as they fall in love with each other and the city they call home. So why not visit the movie’s most iconic locations and fall in love with L.A for yourself.

“LA LA LAND is absolutely a love letter to the city,” says Marc Platt, producer for the film. “The way the film mixes two people leading very hip, modern lives with all these iconic Hollywood locales is unique. You get a feeling both of the romantic fantasy of the city and its grounding in real lives.”

Not-to-be-missed movie locations include:

• Griffith Park: Spanning more than 4,300 acres, take a few hours to explore the urban park by hiking, horse riding or biking. Cathy’s Corner, off Mt. Hollywood Drive, is the spot where characters Sebastian and Mia discover spectacular views of the San Fernando Valley and perform the showstopper A Lovely Night, the sequence of which was filmed in one take.
• Lighthouse Café: This Hermosa Beach landmark has been a legendary jazz showcase since 1949. In La La Land, the iconic music club, once host to Miles Davis and Chet Baker, is a hot date spot for the main characters and plays a pivotal role in Sebastian’s career path. Be sure to stop by L.A's southern sandy beach and see the famous pier from the film too.

• Coles:
 In the 1994 Best Picture winner, Forrest Gump, the exterior of Cole’s – L.A.’s’ oldest continuously operating bar and restaurant – served as the outside of Dick Cavett’s television studio, where Forrest (Tom Hanks) experiences a less than warm reunion with Lieutenant Dan (Gary Sinise).
The historic eatery was originally established in 1908 and touts itself as the originator of the ‘French Dip Sandwich’. The French Dip Sandwich is an Angeleno favourite and must try when in the neighbourhood.
Coles has been featured in countless films over the years, including Rumor Has It, Se7en and Jumpin’ Jack Flash.
Located in Downtown L.A, it’s open seven days a week.
• Dodger Stadium: At the beginning of The Fast and the Furious, Brian O’Conner (the late-Paul Walker) tests out his racing skills while driving his iconic neon green Mitsubishi Eclipse in the parking lot of Dodger Stadium. In one of the movie’s most visually stunning scenes, the gang stands against a guardrail overlooking the Downtown L.A. skyline. That guardrail can be found in the southern portion of the stadium’s parking lot.

There is no charge to visit this movie location, however if you want to fully experience what the Dodger Stadium has to offer.
