Award-winning company Scamp Theatre is set to bring Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s best-loved children’s books to the stage this autumn, including the world premiere of the pair’s most recent book The Scarecrows’ Wedding at this month’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival before it heads off on a UK tour.
Telling the story of Betty O’Barley and Harry O’Hay, the book shares the tale of two excellent scarecrows (they scare a lot of crows!). Harry loves Betty and Betty loves Harry, so they decide to get married. Harry sets off to search for their wedding day essentials, but when the farmer notices he’s missing a scarecrow, he replaces Harry with the devilishly smooth but dangerous Reginald Rake… Will Harry make it back in the nick of time before Reginald ruins their special day?
Suitable for ages three and up, The Scarecrows’ Wedding goes on tour next month, with a run at the Newbury Corn Exchange from 5-6 September. It tours the UK until November.
