Following a year of extensive restoration work, the Spurn Lightship, the first of four new attractions which make up Hull Maritime – a major regeneration project – will open to the public in summer 2023.
Built in 1927 by the Goole Shipbuilding & Repairing Company for the Humber Conservancy Board as a dedicated lightship, this unique vessel was designed as a mobile lighthouse to be anchored at the mouth of the Humber Estuary. Commissioned as the Spurn light vessel, she was positioned on 17 November 1927 and served for almost 50 years, guarding Spurn Point and guiding ships along the treacherous Humber Estuary.
Groups will be able to explore its crew quarters, galley and mess area for a unique insight into the lives of the ship’s crew. Find out more at maritimehull.co.uk, visithull.org and hullgrouptravel.com
