Based in Harrow, the GTC Travel Group, formerly known as the German Travel Centre, has just celebrated its 30th birthday.

Founded by the Bhimani family and run by Tahir Bhimani, the specialist tour operator and travel agent organises flights for small groups – and is growing at an average of 6% a year. The team currently sends 25,000 passengers across the globe.

In 1998, the fledgling company struck a deal with Lufthansa, and today the travel group secures discounts with a range of airlines, from economy right through to first class. While Germany and the rest of Europe remain top destinations, the group has experienced a 7% increase in travel to China year-on-year, with a growth in educational exchange trips, as well as a steady increase in business incentive, conferences and group leisure tours. The group has also seen an average of 11% growth year-on-year to African cities such as Cape Town, Johannesburg, Nairobi and Accra, with a focus on business travel and charity groups.

40% of GTC Travel Group’s clients are educational groups on cultural exchanges or sports tours. But bookings also range from bands, choirs and orchestras on tour to business or charity groups with complex itineraries and requirements.
